No Longer Bound

May 14, 2023    Pastor Jerrell Sarmiento

Happy Mother’s Day; today, we honor women and motherhood. We’ll talk about how children run to their mothers for security, joy, and love the same way as believers run to God. We’ll also minister to the hearts that maybe struggle on this day. For every mom who listens or watches today, thank you for being a mom. Thank you for all your love, support, and hard work. Thank you for being you.

Pastor Jerrell shares the sermon today.

Discussion Questions

-------------------------

- In Psalm 30:5, the psalmist writes, "Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." What are some ways that mothers can find joy in the midst of difficult seasons? How can children support their mothers during these times?

- Romans 12:15 encourages us to "rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." How can we apply this principle in our relationships with our mothers and children? What are some ways that we can celebrate and honor our mothers, both on Mother's Day and throughout the year?

- In honor of Mother's Day, let's take a moment to share some of our favorite memories of our mothers. What special moments or traditions have you shared with your mom? How have these memories shaped your relationship with her?

Word of the Day

-------------------------

Chesed (חֶסֶד)

Chesed (Hebrew: חֶסֶד, also Romanized: Ḥeseḏ) is a Hebrew word that means "kindness or love between people," specifically referring to the loving-kindness and faithfulness of God towards His people, as well as the unconditional love and grace that mothers show towards their children. It is used in Psalm 119:10-11 to describe God's loyal love and mercy towards humanity. It is a reminder of mothers' important role in nurturing their children with kindness, compassion, and grace, reflecting the divine qualities of Chesed.
