Faith Unwavering
As we continue in 1 John chapter 2, we pick up on John’s closing statements and encouragement to the early church regarding false teachers, acknowledging Jesus as the Son of God and abiding in the Holy Spirit.
Discussion Questions
-------------------------
- How can we discern truth from falsehood in the midst of conflicting messages and viewpoints, and what practical steps can we take to ensure that our beliefs are grounded in truth?
- What does it mean to acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, and how does this impact our values and actions in the world as believers?
- How can we cultivate a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit, and what role does the Holy Spirit play in our personal growth and understanding of the world around us?
Word of the Day
-------------------------
pneuma (πνεῦμα)
From Proto-Indo-European *pnéwmn̥, equivalent to πνευ- (pneu-), the root of πνέω (pnéō, “I blow”), + -μα (-ma, result noun suffix). Pneuma (πνεῦμα) is an ancient Greek word for "breath," and, in a religious context, it is used in the New Testament to refer to the Holy Spirit, as well as to the concept of breath, wind, or spirit more generally. In the context of the scriptures from today's sermon, "pneuma" refers specifically to the Holy Spirit and its role in the lives of believers.
